The Simple Woman's Daybook

I am going to use The Simple Woman's Daybook as a guide line for some of my blogs the link to her site is here: http://thesimplewoman.blogspot.com/

Outside my window...lots of leaves on the ground misty and no sun.

I am thinking... of what to have for supper

I am thankful...for family and friends

In the kitchen...my computer

I am wearing...red skirt and black and red glittery top

I am creating...my blog

I am going...to finish knitting my toaster cover

I am wondering...where the time goes

I am reading...2nd Chance by Patterson

I am hoping...to see family again soon.

I am looking forward to...the Church Bazaar

I am learning... to geocache

A favorite quote for today...Worry is like a rocking chair, it gives you something to do but doesn't get you anywhere.

One of my favorite things...peanut butter fudge

A few plans for the rest of the week:tomorrow making turkey soup and Church on Sunday

A peek into my day...at my computer, knitting, reading and TV

July 14 to July 20

Sunday July 14
Went to Mass at 10:30 and had breakfast after at BH with Lou and Carmel and Hendrina.  It is still very hot and we talked about going for a drive but Nancy phoned and invited us to the pool and for a BBQ so we went there for a lovely afternoon. Tom & Joyce came after supper with their grandchildren who are visiting from Texas and they all went for a swim.
Monday July 15
The heat is getting very bad highs of 31°C with humidex over 40. Keeping all the doors closed and windows covered. Evan John is leaving the fan on at night. In the evening we went to Tom & Joyce’s to see Grant & Dawn and family who are home visiting from Texas.
Tuesday July 16
Hot hot hot hot
Wednesday July 17
Today is our 48th Wedding Anniversary. Weather is still very hot and humid. Jack and Nancy picked us up at 5 pm and we went to Bunkers for supper. We were the only customers and we both ordered the large platter of appetizers, wings, mushrooms, cheese sticks, onion rings, shrimp and dill pickles all battered and deep-fried. It came with 3 sauces and carrot and celery sticks. After supper Jack took us on a wonderful 2-hour tour on some back roads I have never been on before. We saw where several friends lived and some new places we didn’t even know existed! It was very enjoyable and just the thing that I love to do.
Thursday July 18
Still hot and humid but cloudy so the sun isn’t so strong. Nancy called and after a quick coffee at BH we went to the pool at 2 pm. Tom & Joyce were there too and the water was like a batbathtubfter going in twice we came home for supper and then went back at 7 for another dip.
Friday July 19
Still in a heat wave with high humidity and storm warnings. We had lunch at BH and then went back for desert! It finally started to rain around 4:30 and we have had storms on and off all evening.
Saturday July 20
Got up early and went to the Flea Market at the Bethel Church. Bought a few small things including some copper wire and a small gift for Sharon. Had coffee at BH and John went to Mass at 5:00 as he was on the list to usher. We watched a few of the masterpiece Mysteries.

July 7 to July 13

Sunday July 7
BH was closed yesterday as Paul’s hand was swollen from a cat bite. He spent the day at the hospital. Open today with Tina and Nichole helping him. We went to Mass at 10:30. It is very warm and humid but there is a light drizzly rain. No sermon and just an opening and closing song. Had breakfast at BH. Wore my orange dress and had a lot of compliments so we took pictures!
Monday July 8
John took Nellie in and got a new water pump. Lori picked him up and she worked for a few hours and went home. Nellie also went to Glen for an oil change so she is ready to go. Hot and hazy day. Went to BH for coffee. Spent time looking for display options for the necklaces for Saturday, and also looked at ideas for memory wire bracelets.
Tuesday July 9
Still hot and humid. Had coffee at BH and then went for my Dr.’s appointment about my knee. He is scheduling an x-ray and prescribed extra strength Ibuprofen twice a day for a month to reduce the inflammation. We then joined Diana and Gayle at Swiss Chalet for supper and saw the cutest white car with eyelashes above the headlights. Did a bit of shopping at Dollarama and then enjoyed the concert. After the concert we met several band members and friends at the Dairy Queen.
Wednesday July 10
Hot hot hot and humid humid humid!!!!!! Christopher called and explained about their new teenager. Renewed my health card and didn’t do much else.
Thursday July 11
It cooled down a bit overnight but was quite warm during the day. I had my right knee x-rayed in C’ford this morning. Stopped at Sally Ann and bought some trinket boxes for the necklace sets for the ball tournament. Nancy picked me up to go to my Ladies Lunch at BH. There were 8 of us with Elaine joining us for the first time. Colleen, Nancy, Julia, Elaine, Loraine, Carmel, Mary and me. Paul had a new desert, which was very good. I then got my hair cut and we went to the pool at 6:30.
Friday July 12
Lovely day, not much humidity and sunny. Sorted beads and went for lunch at BH and sat with Doreen G.
Saturday July 13
Al Hudson Memorial ball Tournament was today. We arrived at 8 am and I started keeping score right away. John & Joan set up at the new picnic shelter and John did all the Barbequing. Sean, Tammy, Charlie & Stephen were here so I kept score where they played (Tammy & Stephen didn’t play). We had a break at 2 pm and Joan did the draws for prizes. We were lucky enough to win 3.  Sean’s team “The Rangers” were undefeated and I kept score for the playoff game (number 7 for me) they were in. Thank goodness for one good ump, Ken McG. When it came to the final game it was very hot and as neither team wanted their money back they called it quits and shook hands. We went home and we went to Carr’s for a BBQ and a swim.

Sunday 7 July 2013

June 30 to July 6

Sunday June 30
Went to Mass at 10:30 and sang with Theo and Elaine. Had breakfast with Hendrina at BH afterwards. To celebrate Carolyn’s achievements, we went to the Asphodel-Norwood Community Centre “Millennium Room” at 1:45 for a time of sharing at 2:00 pm. Her brother, two sons, son-in-law and some friends gave lovely tributes to her life and her daughter played the violin. There was also singing and displays of some of her quilts and hooked rugs.

Monday July 1
Canada Day. Dull and cloudy and temperature around 21° C. Went for coffee at BH. Had a nice chat on the phone with Carole C. It started to drizzle around 4 pm but we went over to the park at 6 and had a Lion’s hamburger and looked around and talked to a few people. The Deen’s (all 4) talked of going to Hastings and we went home. We thought about going back for the fireworks but it was too damp. We were able to see them from our bedroom window!
Tuesday July 2
Started off dull and still cool but the sun came out in the afternoon. Had coffee at BH and John W made a quick stop on his way to Peterborough to see his sister who is very sick. I am doing the change over to July and August slowly. Went to Cobourg and bought a bunch of storage containers for keys and beads and such. Had supper at Wendy’s and went to Victoria Park for the Band Concert. It was nice to see old friends again. Went to DQ afterwards with a lot of band members and friends.
Wednesday July 3
Dorothy’s birthday. John’s sister is not doing well and had to have an operation to remove a bowel obstruction. There are heart and lung complications also. Spent time sorting beads and charms and need more containers. Had a swim in Deen’s pool and Tom & Joyce joined in too.
Thursday July 4
Sharon’s birthday. Warm and muggy. Went to BH after lunch and then went to Peterborough. Talked to Joan and all is well there. Got lots more containers and spent the evening sorting things.
Friday July 5
Made up five Kumihimo necklace sets before lunch at BH. John W stopped in on his way home. His sister is sedated with feeding tubes and oxygen and is getting strong drugs to fight the blood infection. It is a waiting game now. It is hot and muggy with a misty rain alternating with sunshine.
Saturday July 6
Bad night as it was very hot and humid. Went to BH but it was closed, very annoying. Stopped in Havelock Dollar Store on the way to the Lion’s president’s party. A very good turnout and there was lots of shade and a nice breeze so we were quite comfortable. Food was good too and we got home around 7:00 pm.

Monday 1 July 2013

June 23 to June 29

Sunday June 23
It was very foggy all day. Christopher had his boat and took Sharon John and I for a ride. TJ and AJ went out on the new sailboat but there wasn’t much wind so they couldn’t get too far. We packed up the camper (Nellie) and visited back and forth. I played cards with Alexandre, Patrick and Taylor. Philip and Kyrstin went to work. We left for home around 3:30. Stopped in Merickville and John had poutine with pulled pork, pork sausage, bacon, fried onion and green peppers along with the curds and gravy and fries. I had a bacon burger. We were home at 8:30. Had a shower and went to bed.
Monday June 24
Very hot. Went to BH for coffee and I gave Tina the Kumihimo disk I had got for her. I started a braid with different fibres and white beads. Did some laundry. I went to Mass at 6 for the grade 8 graduation to sing with Theo and Elaine. When I got home we went to Jack & Nancy’s for a swim in their pool. I was the only one in the pool and boy was it nice. Sad news that Carolyn D had passed away on Sunday.
Tuesday June 25
Charlie’s 20th birthday. Lori working today. Still very hot. Rain in the morning but I got one load dry. Rained again at supper time but we went to the park for the Tuesday Lion sponsored music. It was the Donegal Fiddlers and was held in the arena because of the rain. We had hot dog and hamburger cooked by the lions and sat in our lawn chairs and enjoyed a very good musical show.  CHEX news was there and there was a small clip on the 11 o’clock news.
Wednesday June 26
Still very hot, got 3 loads of laundry done. Lori working. I did some Kumihimo and read a bit. Nancy called and invited us for a swim after supper. Doug & Laurie also went for a swim, Nancy watched. It sure makes sleeping easier.
Thursday June 27
Still hot and humid and also very cloudy and still. Used some of my coupons for lunch at BH. Finished braiding my Kumihimo with a rainbow of fibbers.
Friday June 28
Rainy and a bit cooler. I was up before John, which is unusual. I spent some time looking for storage solutions for beads and also designed my craft room layout. Went to BH for lunch and Nicole was working with Tina. Spent most of the afternoon sorting and cutting fibres and string for Kumihimo. I have now got a large collection of 4-5 M pieces to chose from. I also cut some extras for Tina and put together a basket with everything I need to finish a project. My findings tin needs gold crimpers but not going anywhere till after the holiday weekend. Traffic has been heavy.
Saturday June 29
Went to BH for coffee after lunch. Just missed Tina but should see her tomorrow. Spent the afternoon categorizing all my photos in ACDSee. I am now up to date. Weather cloud and sun with rain threatening now and then but not materializing. John got “Betty” running and did yard work.

Thursday 27 June 2013

June 16 to June 22

Sunday June 16
Father’s Day. We went to 10:30 Mass and afterwards had breakfast with Lou and Carmel at BH. Sharon the only one to wish her dad Happy Father’s Day. Where did I go wrong? Worked on Thank you cards.
Monday June 17
Rain still. BH closed so had Keurig coffee. Finished the thank you cards and got them ready to mail. Bought some hanging baskets at Foodland.
Tuesday June 18
Lori drove her new SUV to work today and John made a special spot for her to park. We mailed the cards and went for lunch at BH. Finally got caught up on my Blog! I did five posts today.
Wednesday June 19
Finished packing the camper except for last minute food. Lori not here today. The water pump in Nellie is not working so John took her to DJ’s but they say it needs to be replaced and they can’t do it till next week. Went to the Anglican Church “Thank You Tea”. Not as good a turnout s they had hoped due to the United Church Strawberry Dinner.
Thursday June 20
Finished packing and had lunch at BH. Hit the road at 1:30. Lots of delays due to construction on hwy 7. Had fries in Marickville and got to the campground around 7 pm. We set up the canopy for shade but we have a nice flat site (#87) with a large tree.
Friday June 21
Carole C’s birthday. Slept till 9 when our neighbour decided to cut his grass. CW dropped the boys off at noon but returned home to go to Taylor’s grade eight grad. We walked to the beach (after I made my salad) with Philip and Alexandre and got our legs wet. Water was cold. Had ice cream at the snack bar and we went back to our campsite and had a nap. John W had arrived and set up so we visited with him till Sharon & TJ arrived. Christopher had organized dinner and we waited till Lori’s Mom Anne arrived. It was potluck with CW and Lori doing the pulled pork. John and Sharon buns and we brought a vegetable macaroni salad. Anne also brought salads. We had a campfire at CW’s but I gave up around 9, as the bugs were bad.
Saturday June 22
Sharon invited me to go to Lancaster so we went and I got a gift for Taylor and one for Carole as I had forgot the one I had at home. Also got some stocking stuffers and a large cone of black string that is good for Kumihimo braids. TJ had gone and got his sailboat and him and AJ had a sail but there wasn’t much wind. When we returned I went to make lunch when John W invited us to go to the Anchor. Lunch got put away real quick and off we went. Had a wrap and a draft beer. TJ and AJ had gone to check out a sailboat for sail and met us at the pub to report that it was in good shape. We returned with Sharon and John W, TJ and AJ went to buy the boat. I worked on some jewellery and Kumihimo. We heated up sausages for supper and went to a campfire at CW’s. It had rained on and off all day but wasn’t cold. The rain had stopped and the bugs were gone so we sat up till midnight.
